Victory at Carisbrook
Over the past week and a half, 10 students trained for the Otago Rippa Rugby Tournament. It took place on Friday the 7th August at Carisbrook. There were 240 children overall at the tournament competing in three different grades, Year 3/4, Year 5/6 and Year 7/8.
Tahuna played five games. In our pool we played against Mount Aspiring College, Balclutha Primary and St Marys from Mosgiel. All the games were very close but we managed to come out with two wins and a draw. We qualified first in our pool and were drawn to play Balmacewen in our semi final. Balmacewen were no match for our skill and we thrashed them in a one sided encounter.
The grand final was looming and we were drawn to play Balclutha again, The final score was 7-5 and it was a hard fought game. There were quite a few falls and heaps of very good rips and tries!
Thanks especially to Mr Scoles, the teachers for supporting us and all the parents that cheered us on!

Peninsula Art Exhibition
The talent of the artists within Tahuna is obvious when you see the display of 68
entries in the Peninsula Art Exhibition held at Bayfield High School in their Hall, the theme this year is “Birds Eye View.”
The Yr7’s 3D Wall Sculptures are amazing showing the creativity of pupils as all of the sculptures are different. The Yr8 Lino Prints show contrasting detailed texture marks and vibrant Landscape paintings with Maori Patterns.
The Peninsula Art Exhibition winners are 1st Prize Alex R15, runner up Jane R10 and Kristin R16.

Futsal fun
Now that badminton P.E sessions have ended we are lucky enough to have two futsal New Zealand players coming in to help us with our skills. We have been practicing our passing, dribbling, kicking and controlling skills. In the end we play a cool game with the new skills we learnt in that lesson. Simon and Mr Gilchrest have been coaching us and also have been having a little fun at the same time. The difference between soccer and futsal is that in futsal you can use the sole of your foot to control the ball. Futsal started in Brazil and some of the best soccer players in the world started playing futsal about our age. You can play futsal at the Edgar Centre because it is an indoor sport. At the Edgar Centre Futsal New Zealand has started up a training academy which anyone can join in whatever skill level you have.

Tramp
On the 11th of August rooms 1 and 14 went on their winter tramp from Pigeon Flat along Swamp track to the Bull Ring. It took about 45 minutes to climb the first hill and there were stunning views over Dunedin. The track has been recently repaired so it was easy walking up the steep hill. At the top of the summit we walked along the ridge line towards Swampy summit before ending up at the Pineapple track about 3.5 hours later. We stopped a few times and enjoyed a nice lunch in a sheltered spot at the top. Only a couple of people fell but there were no injuries so it was a good day had by all.
