Building Opening
On Thursday September 15, the new teaching block was opened by David Benson-Pope and Lois Muir. David was a first day student at Tahuna and like Lois, his children enjoyed their time and opportunities at Tahuna. The new building has a large room that is ideally suited for dance and drama. This opens even more scope for this fun new curriculum area for our students.
The block also has a large room that is being enjoyed by our orchestra, and is well set up for class music programmes. The storage and the delightful modern decor is appreciated by all students.
At the Opening the Tahuna Maori group ignored the odd spot of rain to welcome us all enthusiastically. The Orchestra and a Dance group also entertained those present with their skill and energy.
Jacquie Tonks, the Board of Trustees Chairperson spoke of the excitement for Tahuna to have this the first of several new building projects completed. We look forward to the new projects, the new Art, Food & Textile Technology Block, the new Library & Information Centre, and the extension of the classrooms in the main two storey block. Very exciting!
